Adventurings Night navigation training course is tailored for proficient navigators seeking to bolster their confidence by acquiring the skills necessary to tackle any navigational challenge they encounter.

Throughout the Night Navigation course, participants delve into techniques tailored for navigating in conditions of reduced visibility. We extensively cover the proper usage of different types of torches and strategies for managing situations where battery power becomes depleted.

Utilizing the darkness to simulate reduced visibility, we draw upon our expertise gained from traversing the wilderness of the Lake District. These techniques are applicable to navigating through fog, mist, or driving snow, phenomena we continue to refine prediction methods for, albeit with ongoing challenges.

At Adventuring, we stand out as one of the United Kingdom’s foremost providers of training courses for hills and mountains. Our courses not only offer highly informative content but are also facilitated by exceptionally experienced trainers. Importantly, we prioritize an atmosphere of enjoyment and camaraderie throughout our courses, evident in the significant number of returning participants.

Night Navigation Course Format:

The evening session is designed to adapt to prevailing weather conditions and darkness onset times. Typically commencing at 1900 and concluding around 2300, our sessions are conducted entirely on the hillside. The exact meeting point will be confirmed approximately 3 days before the course, allowing us to optimize your experience based on the latest weather forecasts.

We kick off with a concise safety briefing and discussion to assess individuals’ familiarity with nighttime navigation. Subsequently, we venture into the hillside to cover:

  • Night navigation essentials: equipment and setup
  • Comprehensive guidance on torches and their applications
  • Introduction to micro-navigation techniques and its practical application
  • Bearings and pacing for accurate navigation
  • Navigation strategies without relying on a torch
  • Abundant opportunities for hands-on practice

This course serves as an excellent bolt-on to our 1-day Mountain Skills and 2-day Hill and Mountain Skills courses, further enhancing your overall mountain navigation proficiency.

Embark on a transformative journey with Lake District Adventuring, mastering the art of night navigation while immersing yourself in the beauty of the Lake District wilderness.
