The Cullin Ridge is the most challenging mountaineering route in the UK — a serious undertaking requiring excellent fitness, solid scrambling ability, and confidence with exposure. Expect long, committing days involving Grade 3 scrambling and short roped sections.
Yes. You should have prior experience on exposed scrambles (such as Crib Goch or Tower Ridge) and be comfortable moving efficiently over rocky terrain. Previous ropework or climbing experience is beneficial but not essential — we’ll coach and guide you throughout.
You’ll need sturdy mountaineering boots, a helmet, harness, and suitable clothing for rapidly changing mountain weather. A full kit list will be provided on booking — we can supply technical gear if required and full packing list.
A full traverse typically takes one very long day (12–18 hours) for the fit and experienced, but most teams complete it over two days with a bivvy on the ridge. Your guide will discuss the best option based on your ability and weather conditions.
