Your walk begins at Wasdale Head Car Park, where your Mountain Guide will meet the group, run through the plan for the day and check everyone has the right kit before setting off on the ascent.

No prior experience is needed, but you should be reasonably fit. If you can comfortably walk for 5–7 hours on steep, uneven terrain you are ready for this walk. We will send a full pre-walk information sheet on booking.
Wear comfortable, layered clothing and sturdy walking boots — no trainers. Bring a waterproof jacket and trousers, a warm mid-layer, hat and gloves. Head torches are provided for the descent. A full kit list is sent with your booking confirmation.
A fully qualified Mountain Leader guide, head torches for the descent, and all safety equipment. The price is £60 per person with a £50 deposit to secure your place. Full payment is due before the walk date.
We meet 3 hours before sunset at Wasdale Head Car Park. The exact meeting time varies by date — you will receive it in your booking confirmation.
Approximately 5–7 hours in total, including the ascent, time at the summit and the descent. We aim to be back at the car park safely within 30 minutes of full dark.
Yes. Wasdale Head Car Park is located at the start of the route. It can get busy in summer so we recommend arriving early. The postcode for sat nav is CA20 1EX.
Yes, from age 14 with a parent or guardian. All members of the group must be physically capable of completing the full ascent and descent. If you are unsure, get in touch and we will advise.
Absolutely. Many guests combine the sunset walk with a day activity such as rock climbing, canyoning or the Esk Ghyll Scramble for a full Lake District adventure weekend.
Safety is always our priority. If conditions are unsafe on your chosen date we will contact you in advance to reschedule at no extra cost. We will always make this call before you travel.
Yes, as long as you are reasonably fit. This is a non-technical walk — no climbing or scrambling is required. Your Mountain Guide will set a comfortable pace and no one gets left behind.
