Lake District Abseiling Adventures
The perfect all-weather Lake District adventure activity
Take on a 60-metre descent down a dramatic vertical rock face in the heart of the Lake District. Abseiling with Lake District Adventuring is one of the most thrilling and accessible outdoor adventures you can do — and you do not need any previous experience to do it.
Under the guidance of a fully qualified Mountain Training instructor, you will learn the technique, clip into the ropes and descend a spectacular crag with a committing overhang section near the bottom. After the abseil, explore the old quarry tunnels at the base of the crag — a unique bonus that makes this one of the most varied activity sessions we run.
Suitable for ages 8 and up. Groups of up to 8. Great for families, stag and hen groups, corporate teams and individuals.
Why Choose Abseiling in the Lake District?

Who Is Lake District Abseiling For?
Our abseiling sessions are suitable for beginners, families, couples, schools, stag and hen groups, and corporate teams. No previous experience is needed.
What To Expect On Your Abseiling Experience
Your abseiling session runs as follows:
- Meet your instructor at the agreed location
- Full safety briefing — how the equipment works and what to expect
- Harness and helmet fitting
- Introduction to abseil technique on a lower section of the crag
- The main 60-metre descent — with your instructor talking you through every step
- Optional overhang challenge near the bottom (brilliant fun once you commit to it)
- Quarry tunnel exploration at the base of the crag
- Opportunity to go again if time allows
The whole session lasts approximately 2.5 hours. Abseiling works brilliantly as a standalone activity or combined with rock climbing or canyoning for a full adventure day.
Our Coniston venue sits next to Church Beck Canyon, making it the ideal location for a combined abseiling and canyoning day. Start on the crag in the morning and then descend the canyon in the afternoon — an incredible combination that covers everything from rope work to waterfall slides in a single day.
Contact us to arrange a bespoke combination day. We can also combine abseiling with rock climbing for a full day on the crag.
