Church Beck, Coniston

Everything you need to know before your session

This page has everything for a session at Church Beck in Coniston — where to meet, what time, what to bring and what I provide. If you're already booked, have a read before you set off and there'll be no surprises on the day.

What to expect

Church Beck runs down through Coniston village, right beside Coniston Water, and it is 100% a wet one — that's the whole point of it.

You'll spend around two and a half hours working your way through the beck: pools, slides, waterfall climbing, and jumps that range from small ones to get you started right up to the bigger ones if you fancy them. There's something at every level.

Every jump and every slide is optional. Nobody gets talked into anything. If you'd rather watch one and do the next, that's completely fine — and plenty of people do exactly that.

Where to meet me

Old Furness Road car park, Coniston, LA21 8HU — directly opposite the small industrial estate. I'll be waiting by the van, you won't miss me.

It's pay and display, so bring some change. Spaces are limited and it fills up quickly in summer and over bank holidays, so give yourself a few extra minutes rather than arriving on the dot.

Please arrive 10 minutes before your start time so I can get you kitted out and briefed without eating into your session. Running late? Call or WhatsApp me on 07502 604166 — I'd much rather know.

What to bring

  • Under the wetsuit: swimwear, or close-fitting underwear
  • Over the wetsuit: a pair of shorts or trousers — these will get wet
  • Trainers or old shoes you don't mind getting soaked — not swim shoes, not sandals, not walking boots
  • A towel and a full change of warm clothes for afterwards
  • A drink and a snack
  • Some change for the car park

I don't provide footwear, so that one really does need to come with you.

Leave your phone, keys and wallet in the car — there's nowhere dry to put them once we're in the water.

What I provide

  • A fitted wetsuit, helmet, buoyancy aid and harness
  • All the technical equipment for the session
  • A fully qualified, experienced instructor — that's me
  • Photos throughout the session, sent to you afterwards

Before you come

Everyone taking part needs to complete the medical and disclaimer form. It's online — no printing, no paperwork on the day. You'll find it under “View Required Documents” on your booking receipt email. If you're booking for a group, every person needs to complete their own.

If anyone in your group has a medical condition, an injury, or is taking medication, tell me before the day rather than on the morning. It almost never stops anyone taking part — it just means I can plan properly.

Still got a question?

Call or WhatsApp me on 07502 604166, or email info@lakedistrictadventuring.co.uk.

It's me that answers, not a call centre.

FAQs

Your Church Beck questions answered

The things people ask me most before a session at Church Beck. If yours isn't here, just give me a ring.

No. Everyone wears a buoyancy aid for the whole session and I'm with you the entire time. Plenty of people who aren't confident swimmers do this and love it. If you're nervous about the water, tell me at the start and I'll keep an eye on you.
Rain on its own doesn't stop us — you're going to be wet anyway. I keep an eye on the forecast and the water levels in the run-up to your session, and if there's ever a concern I'll contact you directly to sort it out. You'll hear from me, you won't be left wondering.
