Sticklebarn, Great Langdale
Everything you need to know before your session
This page has everything for a session at Sticklebarn in the Great Langdale valley — where to meet, what time, what to bring and what I provide. If you're already booked, have a read before you set off and there'll be no surprises on the day.
Booked on something else? All the other information pages are here.
What to expect
Sticklebarn sits in the Great Langdale valley, which gives you some of the most incredible views in the Lake District in good weather or bad.
What makes this one different is that it can be run as wet or as dry as you like, and it works in just about any conditions. If you've got younger ones in the group, or someone who isn't sure about the water, we can keep it drier. If everyone wants soaking, we can do that too — just tell me on the day.
You'll spend around two and a half hours working your way up the ghyll, with small jumps, slides and waterfall climbing along the way.
Every jump and every slide is optional. Nobody gets talked into anything. If you'd rather watch one and do the next, that's completely fine — and plenty of people do exactly that.
Where to meet me
The National Trust car park, Great Langdale, LA22 9JU — the one at Sticklebarn. I'll be waiting at the top of the car park, look out for the Lake District Adventuring branding on the van.
If you've driven past a camp site on your left, you've gone too far.
It's a National Trust pay and display car park, so bring some change or a card. National Trust members park free — just display your card. It fills up quickly in summer and over bank holidays, so give yourself a few extra minutes.
Please arrive 10 minutes before your start time so I can get you kitted out and briefed without eating into your session. Running late? Call or WhatsApp me on 07502 604166 — I'd much rather know.
What to bring
- Under the wetsuit: swimwear, or close-fitting underwear
- Over the wetsuit: a pair of shorts or trousers — these will get wet
- Trainers or old shoes you don't mind getting soaked — not swim shoes, not sandals, not walking boots
- A towel and a full change of warm clothes for afterwards
- For younger ones, an extra warm layer for afterwards — children feel the cold more once they stop moving
- A drink and a snack
- Change or a card for the car park, unless you're a National Trust member
I don't provide footwear, so that one really does need to come with you.
Leave your phone, keys and wallet in the car — there's nowhere dry to put them once we're in the water.
What I provide
- A fitted wetsuit, helmet, buoyancy aid and harness
- All the technical equipment for the session
- A fully qualified, experienced instructor — that's me
- Photos throughout the session, sent to you afterwards
Before you come
Everyone taking part needs to complete the medical and disclaimer form. It's online — no printing, no paperwork on the day. You'll find it under “View Required Documents” on your booking receipt email. If you're booking for a group, every person needs to complete their own.
If anyone in your group has a medical condition, an injury, or is taking medication, tell me before the day rather than on the morning. It almost never stops anyone taking part — it just means I can plan properly.
Still got a question?
Call or WhatsApp me on 07502 604166, or email info@lakedistrictadventuring.co.uk.
It's me that answers, not a call centre.
