No prior experience is needed. This course is designed for complete beginners as well as those looking to refresh their skills. Your instructor will tailor the day to your current level.
You'll cover map reading and compass navigation, route planning, mountain weather awareness, safety and risk assessment, and practical decision-making in real mountain terrain. By the end of the day you'll have the skills to head into the hills with confidence.
Wear comfortable walking boots with ankle support, waterproof jacket and trousers, and warm layers. Bring a packed lunch, plenty of water, and any personal medication. We provide maps, compasses, and any other technical equipment needed.
The course is £190 for one adult or £250 for two adults. A £50 deposit secures your place, with the balance due before the course date. Maps, compass, and all technical equipment are included.
We meet in Keswick in the North Lakes at 09:00. You'll receive full joining instructions with your booking confirmation.
Yes — this course is ideal for complete beginners. We start from the ground up, so no previous mountain or navigation experience is required.
We run in most weather conditions — learning in real mountain weather is part of the experience. However, if conditions are genuinely unsafe your instructor will reschedule the session at no extra cost.
Absolutely. The price of £250 covers two adults. Groups of up to 8 per instructor are welcome — get in touch if you have a larger group and we'll arrange accordingly.
