Our 3-day Mountain Skills Course gives you the confidence and independence to embark on your mini-break in the uk mountains. Whether you are a seasoned mountain veteran or a complete novice, this course is designed for all levels of ability. It is ideal for anyone looking to improve their skills and explore the mountains more effectively.

The course focuses on important safety measures, including navigation skills, planning your trip, considering weather patterns, identifying suitable places to camp, and learning essential emergency skills. We also cover night navigation which normally costs £100 on its own and is a valuable skill in itself, as well as steep ground rope work. Our experienced and qualified Mountain Leader will guide you through all the fundamentals of mountain craft over three days.

We can run these courses any time during the Spring, Summer and Autumn months at a time and date that suits you.

The first day will take place in the hills, followed by a night spent under the stars and a final day encompassing all the important skills you'll need to be a confident and independent mountain explorer. With a course fee of £450 and a low deposit of £100 to secure your place, this is an investment in your personal development that is well worth the cost.

Not only will you learn about navigating and planning, but you'll also gain a deeper understanding of the importance of being safe in the mountains and the thrill of wild camping. This 3-day Mountain Skills Course is a much more in-depth experience compared to a one-day Mountain Skills course or the Hill and mountain skills course and will give you the skills and knowledge you need to head out on your own mini-break with confidence.

  1. Day 1 Meeting

We will meet at a pre-agreed central location (normally somewhere that does a good coffee). After a short presentation about the weather and how to pack effectively, we’ll head out in the mountains to look at how to navigate efficiently. After most of the day out on the hill learning new skills and developing our current ones, we will take a small chill before meeting again at the pub/restaurant to plan our 2-day expedition in the mountains. We will need to use all the skills that we have learned today to plan our mini-break such as weather, route planning and escape routes. The next 2 days are a great chance to explore parts of the Lake District you may not have been to before.

  2. Day 2 Start of the mini break

It will be a nice chilled start to the day meeting at a location (again somewhere that does a good coffee) that we agreed on the previous night. From there we will confirm the final details of our trip, discuss the weather and have a final kit check. There will be a chance for you to buy any last minutes supplies if you need them and then we are off on our expedition. During the day we will look at a variety of key topics that include emergency procedures and steep ground skills. Then it will be a night under the stars taking in the peace and quiet. There is the opportunity here for us to leave camp and take a small walk at night looking at how to navigate in total darkness.

  3. Day 3 Final day

After a night under stars and warm breakfast inside us, we will break camp and finish the final day of our expedition whilst enjoying our surroundings. Today is all about asking any questions you may have and practise any of your new-found skills. After all you're now self-sufficient and able to take on any mountain.

You now have all the key skills and confidence to head out and plan your next adventure.
