ROCK CLIMBING IMPROVERS
fromRock climbing in the Lake District and mountaineering in the UK is an incredible experience, with some amazing adventures right in our backyard. However, it requires a certain level of skill and knowledge before you can fully enjoy it. Lake District Adventuring’s Rock Improvers Course is designed for climbers of all levels who want to improve their skills and take their climbing to the next level.
Whether you are an indoor climber with limited outdoor experience or have completed a learn-to-lead course and are ready to tackle more complex multi-pitch or single-pitch terrain, this course is for you. Over two days, we will focus on improving your current skills and teaching you new techniques.
The course will cover topics such as planning and preparation, technical skills such as placing gear and building belays, mental and tactical approaches to climbing, abseiling and escaping routes, and movement coaching, we will also cover some of the more scary stuff like falls, what to do when we run out of gear and rescues.
You will be under the instruction of a qualified and experienced Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor (MCI), who is a full member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors (AMI). The MCI is the highest award you can hold for teaching mountaineering and rock climbing in the UK and requires years of dedication, experience, and learning.
This is not a mountaineering course and some piro climbing experience is required. You should be able to do the following:
- Tie in with the correct knot
- Belay from below

However it does require a good level of skill and knowledge before you get to that level. Our rock improvers course is aimed at climbers of all levels who are looking to develop new skills and take their climbing onto the next level. You may be an indoor climber with limited outdoor experience or have done a Learn to lead course and looking move onto more complex multi pitch or single pitch terrain.
During the 2 day rock climbing improvers course we will look we look to improve your current skill set and develop on what you already know as well introducing newer skills along the way.
We will look to cover :
Planning and preparation
Technical skills (Placing bomber gear, building belays, linking gear).
Mental and tactical approach to climbing
Abseiling and escaping of routes.
Movement coaching
During the course you be under the instruction of a qualified and experienced Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor (MCI) who is a full member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors The MCI is the highest the highest award you can hold for teaching mountaineering and rock climbing Uk and takes year of dedication, experience and learning to achieve.
Ideally your have been out climbing already and be able to do the basics like putting on a harness, tieing in and the other essential skills.
No not at all – this course is not aimed at people who what to climb hard for all the course we will be working on lower grades where we can practise the skills set in a safe and comfortable way,

Best course ever !!! I've been trad climbing for about 4 years and very rarly am i confident to lead but jack has had me on the sharp end all weekend and i've loved it. Its all hands on and you learn so much from it with a great balance of practical and learning.
