Pack for a day in the mountains Adventuring

What am I packing for a day in the mountain ?

Firstly this list is no means a “you must carry” its just an insight and gives you an idea of what i am packing, Its also worth knowing that this video is not for winter days in the mountain.

  •   A GOOD DECENT SIZED BAG FOR A DAY IN THE MOUNTAINS.

Its worth getting something that is a good size and will hold all your kit and equipment Make sure that the bag fits is correct . Give it a test with some weight in before buying it is my top tip this will give you an idea of what it feels like when you go to pack for a day in the mountains.

  • MAP AND COMPASS – MAKE SURE YOU CAN USE IT

The very first thing I would say is that there is NO point in carrying a map and compass if you don’t know how to use them – Go do a course and learn . If your not sure about what map to for the an area id suggest going and asking a good outdoor retailer or give me a call and I can help.

  • FIRST AID AND SURVIAL BAG

It does not need to be an all singing, all dancing like the one in the video 👆 but just something is better than nothing. I would also say that its 100% worth carrying a survival blanket they weight nothing and are really cheep. However should the worst happen its could save your life – its a good investment.

  • TAKE A HEAD TORCH

My head torch sits in my bag all year round. Its worth having and can come in handy on those shorter days. I would say get something with around 300 + lumens and a good battery life – don’t forget to take spare battery’s.

  • FOOD AND WATER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Its better to have and not need than it is to need and not have. Being in the mountains all day burns a lot of calories and energy. You need to be able to keep yourself fuelled up and have plenty of food.

I am not going to say what you should and should not eat. Everyone is different but a good variety and with good carbs is an ideal.

  • “Climb mountains not so the world can see you, but so you can see the world.” – David McCullough Jr.

  • WATERPROOF TOP AND BOTTOMS – SPEND THE CASH

If I was going to invest my money the most into 2 things then waterproofs would be it 1000%. When its wet and cold a great set of waterproofs really make a difference. There are plenty out on the market and its worth spending some time looking into what is what.

  • PACKING WARM CLOTHING FOR A DAY IN THE MOUNTAINS.

We need to be making sure that we take plenty of clothing for a day out in the hills. Just because its a heat wave at sea level does not mean its going to be like that on the mountain. More often than not its a lot colder so go prepared and take plenty. Your thank me when your on top and you have that pair of gloves you through you would not need.

So there you have it my top tips for packing for a day in the mountains. Its worth practising making sure that you know what you have and where it is.

Leave a comment and let me know what you pack and what you don’t pack
